There has been little change in the severe drought conditions for most of South Central Illinois.
The latest report with data through last Tuesday puts all of Marion, Jefferson, Washington, Clay, and Wayne Counties in severe drought. The western half of Clinton County and the very northwest corner of Fayette County remain in moderate drought while the rest of the two counties are in severe drought. The band of severe drought continues to stretch across the state from the Indiana border to the Mississippi River south of St. Louis.
Most of Southern Illinois remains in either severe or moderate drought as does the west central part of the state in the Quincy area. However, most of the rest of the state from just south of Springfield to the Wisconsin border now has normal groundwater supply.
The forecast for the coming week indicates the region would receive about two inches of rain and snow which could help the drought, but is not anticipated to be enough to end it.
