Kolby Dewayne Yanez, 22, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 8:00 pm December 26, 2024. He was born January 9, 2002, to Nicole Schimp and Troy Yanez and his wife, Candace.
Kolby is survived by his parents, Troy and Candace Yanez of Mount Vernon, who raised him since six months old; mother, Nicole Schimp and husband, Luke of Equality, Illinois; son, Brooks Yanez of Wayne City, Illinois; siblings, Taylor Corbett and husband, Jacob, Kamberlyn, Mackenzie, Missouri, Alabama, and Kolin; grandparents, Theresa Yanez, Trent and Bambi McKinney, Mark and Karen Donoho, and Gary Rayburn; great-grandparents, Edward and Carolann Greenwalt, Irene Donoho, and Gloria Maier; nephews and nieces, River Corbett, Aubrey Corbett, River White, and Olivia Nelson; and several other aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Kolby was preceded in death by his grandparents, Roy Yanez, Jr. and Sherry Kozlowski; and great-grandparents, Arthur Jones and Leroy and Wilma Rayburn.
Kolby proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a proud father and beloved son. Kolby was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed watching football, basketball, and UFC. He loved hanging with his Air Force brothers and gaming with his friends, especially his nephew River. Kolby will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Due to the pending winter storm, visitation and funeral service have been moved to Saturday, January 5, 2025, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will begin at 2:00 pm with Chaplain Darian Cornelius and Mrs. Gwen Southerd officiating. Interment will follow at Harmony Cemetery in Mount Vernon. Full Military Honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the Scott Air Force Base Honor Guard. Memorials may be made in Kolby’s honor to the Yanez family, in care of Troy Yanez to go towards an account for his son, Brooks.
