2024 12/27 – Wayne A. Maschhoff

Wayne A. Maschhoff of rural Carlyle, IL passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at the age of 92 years and 9 months.

Wayne was born south of Posey, IL on March 24, 1932, the only child of Ben and Frieda (Brinkmann) Maschhoff.  He was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in New Minden, IL on April 3, 1932, and confirmed at that church on March 25, 1945.

 He married Marlene Fischer on July 25, 1954, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sacramento CA and she preceded him in death on August 11, 2022, after 68 years of marriage.

Other than the four years that Wayne served in the U.S. Air Force, Wayne was a lifelong farmer and pork producer.  Among his many accomplishments was founding the Cash Co-op, an affiliate of the Midwest Co-op.  He served many years on the Clinton County Farm Bureau Board as well as the Illinois Pork Producers Association board.  Along with his wife Marlene and sons David and Kenneth, he founded Maschhoffs Pork Farm, now known as The Maschhoffs LLC.  He was an original member of the Clinton County Zoning Board of Appeals and served many years on the Hoffman Fire District Board of Trustees.  Wayne was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoffman and held various church offices.

For 15 years, he and Marlene volunteered at the Fly Wheelers Antique Engine club in Florida, where they made many friends and created wonderful memories.   Wayne will always be remembered for his sense of humor, his love for his family, and his steadfast faith in God.

Wayne  is survived by his children: David Maschhoff and wife Karen, Ken Maschhoff and wife Julie, Marla Lopez and husband Carlos; 12 grandchildren: Josh Maschhoff and wife Angela, Ryan Maschhoff and wife Amy, Nichole Maschhoff and  husband Peter Chapman, Chelsey Maschhoff and husband Eric Nichols, Cassie Maschhoff, Benjamin Maschhoff, and Sabrina Randolph and husband Kirk Randolph; Sonya Lopez and husband Alex Petruszak, Carlos A. Lopez and wife Tara, Alejandro Lopez Sr. and wife Christina, Alexia Lopez, and Olivia Lopez.  He is also survived by 11 great- grandchildren: Kyler, Brayson, Zander and Huxton Maschhoff, Austin and Owen Maschhoff, Estevan Lopez, Alejandro Jr and Alessandra Lopez; August Nichols, and Sloane Chapman; one brother-in-law Curt Fischer, two nephews Adam Fischer and wife Rebekah, and Paul Fischer, numerous cousins and many dear friends.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and his sister-in-law Jean Fischer.

Visitation will be held Thursday, December 26, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoffman, and Friday morning from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. The funeral service will be held Friday, December 27, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoffman. Interment with military honors will follow at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in New Minden.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made out to Christ Our Rock Lutheran High School of Centralia, IL, Trinity Lutheran Church of Hoffman, or St. John’s Lutheran Church—New Minden.
