Kaskaskia College students will soon have a new tool to enhance their knowledge of how the human body works. The KC Board of Trustees, during their meeting Monday evening, approved the purchase of an Anatomage 3-D virtual dissection table.
KC Vice President of Instructional Services Julie Obermark says the modern equipment will benefit nursing students as well as those in other fields of study.
“This is really the equipment that has taken shape over a lot of medical schools and healthcare schools such as nursing around the country. Its sort of the gold standard now in teaching anatomy. It was purchased with a school grant, all of our Allied Health programs as well as our general anatomy and physiology students will be able to take advantage of it.”
The virtual dissection table is being fully funded by an Illinois Board of Higher Education Nursing School Grant. College President George Evans commended Obermark and others for their efforts in obtaining the funds for the equipment.
“The grant awarded by the college, written by the staff and faculty here, its very tedious but you don’t get the money if you don’t apply. So kudos to everybody who has had a major role in this. This is another example of us getting aggressive with the grant applications.”
Obermark says school officials hope to receive the equipment and have it installed no later than mid-February.
In personnel items, the board approved the promotion of Jody Roper from Financial Aid Specialist to Financial Aid Advisor and the retirement of Frances Diane Tucker, effective January 1, 2024, from the Children’s Learning Center. New hires included Reece Rutland as the Workforce Equity Initiative (WEI) Partnership Coordinator and Zachary Miller as HVAC Instructor at the Centralia Correctional Center.
