Elmo Linton, age 80 of Keyesport, passed away at HSHS Holy Family Hospital in Greenville, IL on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.

Mr. Linton was born at home in Clinton County, IL on June 12, 1944, a son of John and Mary (Hill) Linton.  Until his passing, Elmo shared 34+ years with Donna Hill, his “#1 Squeeze” and their four-legged fur babies “Baby Girl” and “Penny”. He was previously married to Bonnie Maples on March 31, 1962, for 17 years. From this union, Elmo had 3 daughters – Annette “Eddy” Brown (Kenny), Denver “Little One” McCaskey, and Toni “Boo Boo” Dugan (Jim).  Elmo is also survived by his grandchildren, Tiffany Brown, Tyler Brown (fiance Kari Kesterson), Faith McCaskey, Louis “Master Louis” McCaskey, Teresa “Reesa” Cornelius (Adam), Steffany “Steppie” Moungo (TJ), and Megan “Meggie” Willms (Trevor), Cameron “Big’n” Dugan and Kyle “Little Big’n” Dugan; his great-grandchildren, Emma and Kyra Brown, Brody and Carlie Burns, Audrey and Lexie Cornelius, Bubba, Tate, and Toree Moungo, and Benny, Dawson, and Cade Willms; a son-in-law, Robert “Robbo” McCaskey; and several cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mr. Linton was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Linton; his siblings and in-laws, Billie Sansagraw (John), Mary Primm Maples (Dewayne), Bobby Linton (Shirley), Harold Linton (Delores), Jack Linton (Edith), Delores Ervin (Jay), Nettie Lou Potts (Carl), Vernon Koch (Alberta), and Loretah Wilkerson (Bruce); and 2 nieces, Carmel Tulgetske and Missy Schrumpf. Elmo would also want us to mention a few beloved “rescued” four-legged fur babies shared with his #1 main squeeze: they were Cowboy, Scraps, Puggie, Dude, Butch, Budman, and Cooper to name a few.

After studying tool and dye and mechanical engineering at Rankin Tech and earning his GED, Elmo embarked on a career as diverse as his personality.  He worked at Greenville Spring Factory before co-founding B&E Builders with his brother-in-law, Bruce. His creativity and love for entertaining found an outlet as he worked as a musician for several years, which remained a lifelong passion. His charismatic personality was also well-suited to hospitality, which led him in the mid-80s to own and operate “the largest bar in southern Illinois,” Elmo’s, in Carlyle.  Elmo also worked alongside his beloved main squeeze, Donna, at DJ’s Garage Doors in Florrisant, MO.  He will always be remembered for the melody he brought to every occasion, the stories that could fill a room with laughter, and the indelible mark he left on those fortunate enough to know him.

Funeral service will be held at Zieren Funeral Home, 1111 Clinton Street, Carlyle, IL on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Bruce Sasse, officiating.  Interment will follow at Seagraves Cemetery near Mulberry Grove.  Visitation will be held at Zieren Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 10, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM and on Wednesday, December 11 from 9:00 – 11:00 AM.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mr. Linton are suggested to Spencer’s Kennel in O’Fallon or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  Donations will be received through Zieren Funeral Home.  Online condolences may be shared by visiting www.ZierenFuneralHome.com.
