A 35-year-old Salem man has now been charged in Marion County Court with five conservation violations in connection with an October 24th incident where one of his fingers was severed.
Brant Renfro of Lovell Street has been ticketed for unlawful hunting by use of a vehicle, unlawful hunting after legal hours, unlawful shooting of a crossbow along a roadway or across a highway, having an uncased crossbow in a vehicle, and no valid hunting license.
In addition Renfro has been charged with two other separate conservation violations. They are for unlawful digging of immature ginseng roots after the roots were allegedly found in his car after it was impounded at the sheriff’s department for the investigation.
The other charge is for hunting without a valid hunting license when harvesting a deer in December 2022.
Renfro has been given a notice to appear in court for January 8th.
Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies and members of the Iuka Fire Department searched the Metcalf Road near Wilkins Road where the incident occurred looking for Renfro’s finger. He was airlifted by medical helicopter to a St. Louis hospital for treatment.
