A 36-year-old Salem woman has pleaded guilty in Marion County Court to financial institution fraud.
Ashley Scarlett of US 50 is accused of opening an account at a Salem bank with checks from other financial institutions knowing there was insufficient funds to cover the deposit. She then admitted spending money from the new account, overdrawing it between $10,000 and $100,000.
Scarlett was placed on two and a half years probation, ordered to undergo drug, alcohol and mental health counseling with any recommended treatment, complete 50 hours of public service work, make $19,243 restitution, and pay the Girl Scouts $1,237. She will also have to pay $750 in probation fees and $200 to help cover the cost of a public defender.
