The Salem Wildcats never trailed against 4th ranked St Anthony until 44 seconds left in the game when Brock Fearday hit a driving layup to give the Bulldogs a 40-38 advantage and eventually a 42-38 victory.

The Cats had a chance in the game’s final seconds but couldn’t get a tying or go ahead shot to go in.  The Cats held a 4 point advantage with just under 5 minutes left in the game when junior Ryan Schmidt would find a shooting lane from distance.

The loss overshadows another solid shooting night from senior Gavin Zimmerman who made 6 three’s on his way to 18 points.  Salem would get 10 points from Noah Nix and 10 points and 9 rebounds from Brenan Richardson.  Fearday led the Bulldogs with 20.

The Cats are 1-4 as they still have 2 more games this week as they travel to undefeated Breese Central on Friday before playing Saturday afternoon at the Mount Vernon Shootout against the Runnin’ Lions of Cisne.

Also last night:

Belleville Althoff got 17 points and 7 rebounds from Dierre Hill Jr as they beat Mater Dei 58-50.  Drake Wagner led the Knights with 15.
