The Illinois Department of Transportation has no immediate or long-range plans to repair the rapidly deteriorating pavement on West Main Street (US 50) west of Interstate 57 in Salem.
Public Works Director Annette Sola provided an update to the city council this week.
“There is nothing on their books to repave the area in front of Walmart. We talked about the possibility of emergency repairs, but looking out to FY2028 we are not on their schedule.”
Salem Mayor Nic Farley plans to write a letter of concern about the situation in hopes of getting money added to the state budget to complete improvements to West Main from I-57 west to Selmaville Road.
Sola says IDOT is more likely to pay attention to a request from a city official than public complaints.
