The Salem Wildcats split their opening two games at the Capital Classic in Red Hill yesterday.  Salem opened with a 54-32 loss to TTown.  The Cats trailed 19-2 after the opening quarter and never threatened.  Brenan Richardson led Salem with 8, 7 each from Sam Greene and Noah Nix.

The Cats bounced back to knock off the hosts 65-45 as senior guard Gavin Zimmerman was on fire.  He hit 7 three pointers through 3 quarters, one shy of the tournament record set by Salem’s Dawson Linder in 2017.  Zimmerman finished with 24 points in the game to lead all scorers.  Noah Nix had 10 and sophomore Ryegan Warren finished with 9. Salem returns to action today in their final pool play game at 11:30 against Olney.  A win and there would be a 3-way tie for the top spot in the pool, a loss and Salem will play for 5th place today at 4pm.

Olney got a huge win last night beating TTown 46-44 on a put back as time expired.  The Tigers trailed 44-37 with just over 2 minutes left before their comeback was complete.

The Centralia Orphans will play a familiar face in the title game today of the Roxana Hoopsgiving Tournament.  After beat Gateway Legacy yesterday in the semifinals 48-39, the Orphans will play the Carbondale Terriers at 7pm in the championship after they knocked off the host Shells 56-29.  The 3rd place game is at 5:30.  The 5th place game is Marquette and Gibault with Freeburg and Civic Memorial playing for 7th.  The 9th place game is Staunto0n and Piasa with Wood River and Jerseyville playing in the 11th place game.

The SC Cougars will play for the Mulberry Grove championship tonight after their win over CHBC in their final pool play game 47-40 in overtime last night.  SC outscored CHBC in the extra frame 11-4 and was led by Brody Markley with 15, Max Magnus added 13 and Bergman finished with 11.  SC takes on St Elmo/Brownstown at 6pm.

Also a scheduling note for next week for the SC Cougars, due to a death in Ramsey, the game that was to be played on Tuesday with SC and Ramsey has been moved to Saturday, December 9th.  The JV will start at 1pm followed by the varsity contest.

At the Christopher Tournament today, the Patoka/Odin Eagles will take on Marissa/Coulterville in the Consolation Championship at 3:30.  The day begins with the 7th place game between Thomsponville and Zeigler.  The 3rd place game at 5:15 is New Athens and Webber with Christopher and Waltonville playing in the championship at 7:45.

At Cumberland, Cumberland and Okaw Valley open the day with the 7th place game at 1:30.  Then Vandalia and Dieterich in the Consolation title game at 3 followed by North Clay and Marshall in the 3rd place game at 4:30.  The championship starts at 6pm with Newton against Casey Westfield.

The trophy games are set at the St Anthony Tournament after final pool play games last night.  Belleville East beat Rantoul 74-34, Breese Central over Robinson 49-32, Champaign Central beat Mattoon 79-58 and St Anthony routed Effingham 61-34.  The trophy games today will see Effingham and Robinson play for 7th place at 3, Rantoul and Mattoon for 5th place at 4:30, St Anthony will play Champaign Central for 3rd at 6 before the title game with Belleville East and Breese Central at 7:30.

At Elverado today, Sandoval will play Pope County at 1pm today for the Consolation title.  Carterville JV will try to pull off the upset and win the whole tournament at 4pm in the title game against Crab Orchard.

At the Wesclin Tip Off last night, Wesclin beat Christ Our Rock 53-35 and Columbia nipped Nashville 39-33.  Today the tournament finishes up with Nashville and Mater Dei followed by Wesclin and Columbia for the championship.

The Mount Vernon Rams are back in action today at Triad with they play Springfield at noon and Triad at 6:30.

The Kaskaskian opens up at Carlyle today.  Pinckneyville will open with Okawville at 3pm followed by Greenville and SIUE Charter at 4:30, then at 6 it’s Flora and Woodlawn followed by Hillsboro and Carlyle at 7:30.
