Marion County had the second-highest number of turkeys harvested in the state during the recently completed shotgun turkey season.
Statewide, 267 turkeys were harvested, down from the record harvest of 1,218 birds harvested in 2005.
Marion County had 14 turkeys harvested, up two from last year. The top turkey hunting county was JoDavies County in the extreme northwest part of the state where 23 turkeys were harvested, up from 19 last year.
In other area counties, Jefferson County hunters harvested nine birds, down one from last year. Nine turkeys were also harvested in Clay County, down one from last year. Wayne County hunters took ten turkeys, double the number harvested last year. Washington County hunters brought in three turkeys.
There were 1,711 regular fall firearm season permits sold this year compared to 1,727 last year.
