The Salem Lady Wildcats take their 4-0 record to Fairfield tonight to take on the Lady Mules after dominating their way through the DuQuoin Tournament on their way to a championship on Saturday. It was the first championship trophy has won since winning a regional in 2018 and the first 4-0 start since 2010-11 season.
Salem led 16-5 after the opening quarter in the title game against Cairo and never looked back, eventually invoking a running clock in the 4th quarter on their way to a 59-23 win. Emma Gregg was the only Lady Cat in double figures with 12 as all 10 Lady Cats on the roster scored. Kayla Felgenhaur had a great tournament as well and finished with 9. Both Gregg and Felgenhaur were named to the All Tournament Team. Christopher’s Amiah Hargrove was named Tournament MVP averaging over 30 points per game and scored her 2000 prep point during the week. Hargrove will continue her career next year at the University of Nebraska.
Pinckneyville beat Christopher in the 3rd place game 56-43. Woodlawn was 5th over Sesser/Valier/Waltonville 62-40 and DuQuoin beat Murphysboro 70-19 for 7th place to open the day.
Breese Mater Dei beat Centralia to win the Centralia Tournament 47-34.
Carlyle won the Columbia Tournament beating the hosts 63-43. Greenville was 3rd over Father McGivney 44-37.
Roxana won the Dupo Tournament beating Wood River 46-20.
Nokomis beat Vandalia to win the Nokomis title 59-28.
Tonight, the Sandoval girls are at the Hamilton County Tournament.
