UNDATED (AP) — Ohio State passed Michigan and moved up to No. 2 in The Associated Press college football poll a week before the Big Ten rivals play another top-five matchup. No. 4 Washington flip-flopped with No. 5 Florida State. Georgia remained No. 1 and received a season-high 61 first-place votes. The Bulldogs have been atop the rankings for 23 straight weeks, the second-best streak in the history of the poll. The top five teams, all unbeaten, had held their places for five straight weeks. All improved to 11-0 on Saturday.
COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — It’s finally time for Michigan and Ohio State to meet. After weeks of turmoil and a couple of close calls, they’ll do it with matching 11-0 records. It’s the second straight year that’s happened. Michigan reached its milestone 1,000th victory by escaping with a 31-24 win at Maryland on Saturday, and Ohio State handled Minnesota 37-3. Michigan and Ohio State swapped places this weekend in the AP Top 25, with the Wolverines dropping to No. 3 and the Buckeyes moving up to No. 2. As of Sunday afternoon, FanDuel Sportsbook had Michigan favored by 3 1/2 points for next weekend’s home game against Ohio State.
NEW YORK (AP) — Tristen Newton scored 23 points and No. 5 UConn pulled away in the second half for a 77-57 victory over Indiana in the Empire Classic in New York. Cam Spencer added 18 for the defending national champions, who led for the final 33:21 in their first meeting against Indiana since 2019. Alex Karaban scored 13 and Donavan Clingan grabbed nine rebounds as the Huskies shot 44.6% and outrebounded Indiana 44-22. Malik Reneau led the Hoosiers with 18 points. He helped Indiana stay within striking distance by scoring 15 in the first half but fouled out with seven minutes left.
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Caitlin Clark had 35 points and 10 assists and Kate Martin had a career-high 25 points as No. 2 Iowa responded from its first loss of the season, defeating Drake 113-90 on Sunday. The Hawkeyes (4-1), coming off a 65-58 loss to Kansas State on Thursday night, scored a program-record 64 points in the first half, shooting 65% in the first half. Clark, the reigning national player of the year, bounced back from one of the worst shooting nights of her college career, making 14 of 22 shots, including 5 of 11 3-pointers. Grace Berg led the Bulldogs (3-1) with 19 points.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Paige Bueckers had 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists for eighth-ranked Connecticut in her hometown, and the Huskies stifled Minnesota’s outside shooters on the way to a 62-44 victory over the Gophers. Aaliyah Edwards scored 16 points and nine rebounds to help UConn control the paint and conclude a strong week following a Nov. 17 loss to No. 14 North Carolina State. Bueckers grew up in Hopkins about 10 miles from Williams Arena. The Huskies are 3-1. The Gophers went 6 for 34 from 3-point range and shot just 26.2% overall.
EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Tre Holloman scored 17 points and Jaden Akins added 13 to help No. 18 Michigan State roll to a 81-49 win over Alcorn State on Sunday. Coen Carr had 11 points for the Spartans (3-2), who played without leading scorer Tyson Walker (23.0 ppg), who did not dress due to illness but sat on the MSU bench in street clothes. Holloman started in place of Weaver, scoring 12 of his 17 points in the first half. Jeremiah Gambrell led Alcorn State (1-4) with 12 points and Jeremiah Kendall added 11.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Roddy Gayle Jr. and Jamison Battle scored 13 points apiece to lead Ohio State to a 73-52 victory over Western Michigan in a campus game of the Emerald Coast Classic. Gayle sank 6 of 9 shots with a 3-pointer for the Buckeyes. Battle made 5 of 12 shots with three 3-pointers. Bruce Thornton pitched in with 12 points, five assists and three steals. Zed Key and Dale Bonner both came off the bench to score 11. Gayle had nine points and five rebounds in the first half and Ohio State took a 41-21 lead into the locker room. Seth Hubbard led the Broncos (0-4) with 24 points on 10-for-18 shooting, including 4 of 9 from 3-point range.
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Morgan Maly had 14 of her 23 points in the first quarter, Emma Ronsiek scored 21 and No. 22 Creighton held off Nebraska 79-74. Maly sank all four of her 3-point attempts in the first period and Creighton (3-1) grabbed a 28-23 lead. Maly had 18 points by halftime and Ronsieke scored 11 to send the Bluejays into the locker room with a 47-40 lead. Creighton led by nine entering the final period, but Darian White made two free throws to pull the Cornhuskers (3-1) within 72-69 with 3:36 remaining. Lauren Jensen answered with a layup and the Bluejays maintained a two-possession lead from there.
