IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Caitlin Clark struggled through a poor shooting performance and No. 2 Iowa failed to score in the last three minutes Thursday night, falling to Kansas State 65-58. Clark, The Associated Press national player of the week in women’s basketball, scored 24 points on 9-for-32 shooting from the field and 2-for-16 sniping from long distance, failing to make her first 3-pointer until just over a minute left in the second quarter. Iowa (3-1), which had been averaging 92 points in its first three games, shot just 36.1% from the field and was 2 for 21 from long distance. Ayoka Lee scored 22 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter, to lead Kansas State’s comeback victory.
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Michigan has announced that football coach Jim Harbaugh will serve the remainder of a three-game suspension from the Big Ten in return for the conference ending its investigation into a yearslong scheme to steal opponents’ play-calling signals. The settlement on Thursday is the latest twist in a story that saw one of college football’s most recognizable programs accused of purchasing tickets to the games of Michigan’s future opponents and sending people to those games to digitally record teams signaling in their plays. Harbaugh was suspended just weeks after an investigation into the allegations by the NCAA surfaced.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Nick Honor scored 16 points and Sean East II’s three-point play with 9.9 seconds remaining gave Missouri its first lead of the night and the Tigers held on — after rallying — to beat Minnesota 70-68. Minnesota’s Cam Christie missed a 3-pointer with time expiring. Mike Mitchell Jr. gathered the carom but couldn’t get the shot off as time expired. Dawson Garcia scored 16 points for Minnesota
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Kel’el Ware scored a career-high 22 points and matched a career best with 12 rebounds as Indiana cruised to an 89-80 victory over Wright State. UNDATED (AP) — Second-ranked Michigan visits Maryland Saturday in the week’s top game in the Big Ten. The Wolverines powered through their off-field problems last week to take care of business against Penn State. Maryland built some confidence with a road win against Nebraska that clinched bowl eligibility. A judge will decide whether suspended Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh will be on the sideline. Nebraska travels to Wisconsin for a final meeting as West Division rivals. Rutgers will try to pull an upset as a big underdog at Penn State. Illinois coach Bret Bielema’s decision to start Luke Altmyer at quarterback surprised some fans.
COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — A win at Maryland on Saturday would make No. 2 Michigan the first college football program with 1,000 victories. The unbeaten Wolverines are trying for their third straight conference championship. Next week’s showdown with Ohio State is the hurdle they need to clear as they pursue that. In fact, Michigan could lose to Maryland and still reach the Big Ten title game by beating the Buckeyes. If the Wolverines are distracted by the sign-stealing scandal that resulted in the suspension of coach Jim Harbaugh, maybe a shot at a historic victory can help them stay focused. Maryland snapped a four-game losing streak last weekend at Nebraska.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — After a loss to No. 2 Michigan last week, No. 12 Penn State wraps up its home slate Saturday against Rutgers — a team the Nittany Lions (8-2, 5-2 Big Ten) have pushed around since the Scarlet Knights joined the Big Ten in 2014. Penn State is 8-0 in the series and has won every game since 2015 by double figures. Rutgers (6-4, 3-4) hasn’t scored a touchdown at Beaver Stadium in its last four visits.
