LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Juwan Gary scored 19 points off the bench, Brice Williams added 17, and Nebraska defeated Stony Brook 84-63 in the Cornhusker Classic. After shooting a dismal 3 for 17 from 3-point distance in the first half, the Cornhuskers made 3 of 4 treys in the first two minutes of the second half and led 45-34. Five minutes later Dean Noll hit a 3-pointer and added a layup to get the Seawolves within 56-49. CHICAGO (AP) — Northwestern rewarded coach David Braun for a remarkable turnaround following Pat Fitzgerald’s firing in the wake of a hazing and abuse scandal by removing the “interim” label from his job title. Hired in January as the team’s defensive coordinator, Braun and the Wildcats are in a position few would have envisioned. Braun seemed more like a place holder given his background when he was elevated to interim head coach three days after Fitzgerald was fired, ending a 17-year tenure. He had never coached at an FBS program let alone led one. But after spending the past four seasons as defensive coordinator at FCS powerhouse North Dakota State, he’s been a steadying force at Northwestern. The Wildcats are 5-5 overall and 3-4 in Big Ten play.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Iowa standout cornerback Cooper DeJean will miss the rest of the season with a lower leg injury. DeJean was a member of The Associated Press midseason All-America team and a finalist for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy as the top defensive player in the nation. The junior was injured in a practice this week. Coach Kirk Ferentz called the injury heartbreaking. DeJean played almost 400 plays in coverage this season without giving up a touchdown. He leads the Hawkeyes with five pass breakups and is second with two interceptions and leads the Big Ten with an 11.5-yard punt return average.

UNDATED (AP) — Sports economist Andrew Zimbalist says the big contract buyouts paid to fired coaches will continue to grow until the college sports business model changes. Texas A&M will pay more than $75 million to fired football coach Jimbo Fisher. Other top coaches have buyouts that run into the tens of millions. Zimbalist says college athletics is run by stakeholders rather than stockholders and the bottom line is measured by victories rather than profits. He says there will be no end to these golden parachutes until the business model changes and significantly more revenue is redirected to the athletes.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — The former Michigan staffer at the center of sign-stealing investigation by the NCAA didn’t file any expense reports during the 17 months employed by the football program. The school says there were no responsive records for Connor Stalions’ expense reports. The NCAA obtained documented plans and budgets outlining the scouting scheme of Michigan opponents and shared the materials with the school and conference. The Big Ten says the NCAA also has evidence that showed Stalions purchased tickets and had people sit in those seats to obtain video of the sideline signals.

UNDATED (AP) — There are big games and plenty of heavy lifting to be done in Week 12 of the college football season. As has become tradition throughout the South, the weekend before Thanksgiving is a chance to take a little break. The Southeastern Conference invented the late-season cupcake game and some Atlantic Coast Conference schools have adopted it, too. No. 4 Florida State faces North Alabama on Saturday. No. 8 Alabama hosts Chattanooga, another FCS school. No breaks in the Pac-12, though: No. 5 Washington vs. No. 10 Oregon State is the week’s most intriguing game.
