Salem Community High School Superintendent Dr. Brad Detering says the summer work plan will include replacing the stair treading on all five stairwells in the school.
Detering reports the treading is beginning to break off with age. The project will require asbestos removal of the old treading in addition to the installation of the new product.
The high school board Monday night agreed to seek a $50,000 matching state maintenance grant to pay for part of the cost of completing the work on one of the stairways. The rest of the money will come from health, life, safety funds.
