The Salem Lady Wildcats opened up the DuQuoin Tip Off Tournament with a 44-30 win over Sesser Valier.  The Lady Cats forced 32 turnovers and used an 18-4 third quarter to turn a 2-point halftime lead to a 16 point lead after the third.  Emma Gregg led Salem with 14, Kayla Felgenhaur added 12 as Salem used an up-tempo pace on both ends of the floor to put the pressure on the Devils early.

The Lady Cats return to tournament play Wednesday at 6pm when they take on Murphysboro in pool play action on WJBD.

Also at the DuQuoin Tournament last night, Cairo beat Woodlawn 63-58.  In the loss, Woodlawn’s Jase Burkett scored 22 points and in doing so surpassed 1000 career points for the Lady Cardinals.

Christopher beat DuQuoin 49-44 and Pinckneyville over Murphysboro 77-14.

At the Columbia Tip Off, the hosts beat Marquette 51-27 and Father McGivney beat Belleville West 47-37.

At the Dupo Cat Classic, Wood River beat Dupo 44-15.

The SC Lady Cougars are back in action tonight at Casey Westfield coming off a loss in their season opener last night to CHBC 71-37.  Lauren Johnson led SC with 12, Kaitlyn Swift added 8. Macey Rodmen had 23 to lead CHBC.

Also in prep girls regular season basketball, Breese Central routed Hillsboro 56-15, Althoff over Cahokia 62-33, Carlyle beat Lebanon 33-8, Sandoval fell to Ramsey 32-30.
