Five area fire departments fought a woods fire Thursday afternoon that spread to about eight acres and destroyed three outbuildings.

Centralia Fire Protection District Chief Ross Boshera says the fire on the Mike Schramke property on Somerset Drive about two miles east of Grand Prairie School started from a trash fire that got away.

The fire destroyed a 24 by 24 foot detached garage, an outhouse, and a building that appeared to be a 10 by 15 foot former chicken coup. Boshera says they were able to keep the fire away from the home which was about 100 yards away and it sustained no damage.

Boshera says the fire was difficult to reach because of the very hilly terrain.

Jefferson Fire, Centralia City, Irvington, and Kell all provided mutual aid assistance.

The fire call came in at 2:50 Thursday afternoon with firemen on the scene until around five pm.
