The Salem City Council Monday night will consider recently opened bids for residential trash collection service and completing a study of the city’s housing needs.
City Manager Rex Barbee says four companies submitted bids for consideration out of the 15 that were asked to bid. The lowest apparent bidder is Sunrise Sanitation. Barbee is not making a recommendation, but is asking for discussion of the bids. Options include moving to garbage totes provided by the garbage collection companies that can be picked up by arms on the trucks and providing a service where residents could call at anytime for pickup of large no longer wanted items at a nominal fee.
The council will consider completing a housing study of the community. Economic Development Director Lea Dellicarpini has researched companies and is recommending Tracy Cross and Associates, Inc. at a potential cost of $15,750. The city has been struggling on finding a way to get more new homes constructed in the community.
The council will have a second reading on requiring ten day prior notice for events where a special liquor license is requested. There is no time line now for applying for the special licenses which sometimes causes problems in getting them issued in time for the event.
The council will receive a request from Chris Ice to waive a city lien on property at 335 West Porter Street in Salem he is considering purchasing as a potential residential home site.
Stanford Enterprises, LLC and Josh Dice are requesting $947.50 in TIF financing to pay half the cost of facade improvements for a downtown business building they own at 113 East Main Street.
The meeting begins at six Monday night at Salem City Hall.
