Congressman Mike Bost says the US House of Representatives has approved $ 1 million in funding for the construction of the proposed new Centralia Water Treatment Plant.
The money is part of $ 3 million approved for interior programs and public health and safety on Friday.
Bost calls the funding an important step forward for the many thousands of rural Southern Illinoisans who rely on these facilities for public health and sanitation.
The City of Centralia is currently trying to line up funding for the estimated $ 21 million new water treatment plant.
Bost also obtained $ 1 million for Dietrich for a sanitary sewer relining project and $ 1 million for Teutopolis for a water main replacement project.
