A 41-year-old Centralia man has been found unfit to stand trial for a September arson charge where a vacant home in Centralia was heavily damaged by fire.
A fitness hearing had earlier been ordered in Marion County Court for Edwin Steinkamp. The evaluation came back that Steinkamp was currently unfit, but with proper treatment, should attain fitness within a year. He was ordered detained at a State Department of Human Services Facility for inpatient treatment.
Steinkamp had been arrested nearby the fire in the 1100 block of South Hickory on September 8th when seen walking away from the blaze. When stopped by police he also had a strong odor of smoke and was in possession of a small torch.
