Last night was Sectional Championship night in the IHSA for prep volleyball. In Class 1a, a pair of National Trail Conference teams are in the Elite 8. St Anthony won the Nokomis Sectional with a straight sets win over Valmeyer. They advance to Friday’s Super Sectional at Okawville against NCOE. Windsor defended their home court with an easy win over Cerro Gordo to advance to Milford where they will play Cissna Park.
In 2a, Mater Dei won the battle of Breese and the Greenville Sectional knocking off top-seed Breese Central 25-23, 23-25, 25-16. They advanced to Carlinville to play Pleasant Plains. Carmi needed 3 sets after dropping the first one to beat Fairfield at Pinckneyville. They advance to Robinson to play St Thomas More.
In one of the best prep volleyball games you will see, Mascoutah defended their home court and won a 3-set thriller in their 3a sectional final eating Freeburg 23-25, 25-23, 25-18 in front of almost a full house in Mascoutah. The Lady Indians will play Lincoln in Taylorville on Friday for a trip to the Final Four.
