Thursday is opening night for the Centralia High School Showcase on Stage presentation of “Little Shop of Horrors”.
Director Jami Jacobs says the show was selected based on its references to Solar Eclipses which she felt was good timing with the eclipse last month and the big Eclipse coming next April.
“It’s a story about Seymore, a plant guy and works in a flower shop. He discovers this strange and unusual plant during a solar eclipse. Then he realizes it eats blood and then eventually people. So he realizes the price of fame and fortune.”
The voice of ‘Audrey II’ is junior Zachary Detering.
“I’m just the voice of it. The real show is the puppeteer. But I really just eat people and that really is all there is to it. A lot of munching noises and whining. Some really cool singing parts though, I’m really happy I got it.”
Junior Zoey Bone is the ‘Audrey II’ puppeteer on stage who lip-syncs what Detering is saying.
“It’s a lot of work and it hurts a whole lot after, but it’s not too bad.”
Junior Lyra Shook plays Audrey .
“She’s kind of a misfit employee of the plant store. And she basically is the main love interest. And Seymore, the main character, is really shy and wants to make Audrey fall in love with him. But Audrey has a not-so-nice boyfriend.”
Aylah Hopson is one of the show’s narrators. She talked about what she likes most about the show.
“I’m dance captain for this show so it was really fun to learn all the dances and I actually got to choreograph one of the dances for the show.”
Performances will be Thursday, Friday and Saturday at seven, with a Sunday matinee at three.
