By Bruce Kropp Nov 2, 2023 | 6:55 PM

Phyllis Loraine (Belden) Thacker, formally Huff, 79, of Salem, went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 23, 2024. She was born in Salem on September 30th, 1945, to Donald and Bernice (Neaveill) Belden. She would marry Kenneth Huff, and they later divorced. She married Darrell Thacker, and he preceded her in death.

Phyllis is survived by her four sons: Jeff (Michelle) Huff of New Athens, Il., Greg (Felicia) Huff of Bates City, Mo., Mike (Barbie) Huff of Marion, Il., and Doug (Billie) Huff of Salem; two stepsons: Jerome (Annie) Thacker and Jerrod Thacker; many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; and one sister: Judith (Ronnie) Holmes of Newton, Il.

She was preceded in death by parents: Donald and Bernice Belden; her husband: Darrell Thacker; and a sister: Naomi Jamison.

Phyllis was a woman of great faith, who loved being active in the church and truly enjoyed gospel music. She enjoyed gardening, canning vegetables, and at one point making baskets that were better quality than anything found in the stores. She was a babysitter before working in the meat department at Salem IGA. Phyllis’ greatest joy came from her love of her family, especially her boys and grandchildren, with whom she loved making cookies. She was a caring, loving mother/grandmother, that will be dearly missed by her family, who couldn’t ask for anyone better to have been their mom.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, November 2nd, 2024, at 1:00 pm at the Sutherland-Rankin Funeral Home chapel, with Pastor Phil Martin officiating. Burial to follow at Paradise Cemetery.
