Two people were injured in a three car rear end collision on West Main at Hotze Road on the west side of Salem Sunday afternoon.
Salem Police says an eastbound SUV driven by 76-year-old Rose Hayes of Mockingbird Road in Farina started the chain reaction collision when running into the rear of an SUV driven by 60-year-old Gayla Ball of Radio Tower Road in Salem while Ball was stopped for a red light. The impact forced the Ball vehicle into the rear of a pickup in front of her driven by 36-year-old Ronald Rogers of North 800th Street in Vernon.
Both Hayes and Ball were transported by United Medical Response to Salem Township Hospital for treatment of injuries. Hayes was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
All of those in the vehicles were out before the arrival of emergency help from Salem Police, the Salem Fire Protection District, and the Marion County Sheriff’s Department.
The crash occurred at 1:49 Sunday afternoon.
