Salem Fire Protection District officials were able to confine a fire at the Gail Goff home at 5068 Cartter Road in rural Kell to one room, but the entire home sustained heavy smoke damage.
Salem Fire Assistant Chief Bill Fulton says a passerby initially spotted smoke coming from the residence which was heavy by the time firemen arrived on the scene.
The fire was confined to the living room and contents as firemen got a quick knockdown. It is believed the fire began around a TV and may be related to lightning activity in the area Wednesday morning.
Goff was not home at the time.
Kell Firemen provided mutual aid on the scene and Odin stood by at the Salem Fire Station in the event of another fire.
The fire call came in at 10:25 on Wednesday morning.
