Marion and Washington County remain at the medium level for COVID-19 spread and have now been joined by Fayette and Effingham Counties.

The latest weekly update from the Centers for Disease Control released Thursday afternoon also has dropped Jefferson and Wayne Counties back to the low level after new hospitalizations dropped.

As of September 2nd, the CDC is reporting ten hospitalizations apiece in Marion, Washington, Fayette, and Effingham Counties.

The CDC no longer tracks the number of COVID-19 cases because most testing is done at home.

Marion County Health Department Administrator Melissa Mallow says the number of congregate care facilities on outbreak status has dropped from four to two.   There are now one facility apiece in Salem and Centralia which have two or more cases of COVID-19 that puts them in the outbreak status.
