2024 09/11 – Darrell Massey

Darrell Massey, 65, of Centralia, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2024.

He was born July 8, 1959 in Hephzibah, Georgia, the son of Delmar Massey and Imogene (Baity) Massey. He married Josephine “Penny” Stinde on April 19, 1988 and she survives.

Along with his wife of 36 years, Penny Massey of Centralia, Darrell is also survived by his two children: Christopher McElroy and wife Trisha of Centralia and Kristy Butler of Centralia. He was a proud grandpa to his six grandchildren: Anthony McElroy and wife Sarah of Centralia, Taylor McElroy of Centralia, Riley and Chloe Butler both of Patoka, Elias and Anelia Wooters both of Centralia and his seven great-grandchildren: Bentlee, Maesyn, Knoxley, Blayre, and Ahlaya Wesley, with two more on the way. Also surviving is his brother: Michael Massey and Lori Murray of Centralia; five nieces: Kendra Hopkins and husband Sundance of Centralia, Amy Polczynski and husband Dustin of Nashville, Erica Massey of Centralia, Loganne Massey of Centralia, and Rachel Scott of Marion, IL; nephew: Eric Will and family of Marion; and special friends: Rodney Feazel and wife Glenda of Centralia.

In addition to his parents, Darrell was preceded in death by his grandparents: Rachel and Zee Baity, his cherished sister: Becky Will, and his beloved nephew: Travis Will.

Darrell was a valued employee of Gilster for many years. In addition to spending time with his friends, he enjoyed barbecuing and golfing. He cared deeply for his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid sports fan and never missed an opportunity to cheer on the St. Louis Cardinals or the San Francisco 49ers. In his youth, he could be found wreaking havoc on the softball field for B&J Logging. He will be remembered as a fierce competitor and a loyal friend.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, September 11, 2024, from 2:00pm-4:00pm at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia.
