Dorothy Hill, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2024, at the age of 97 years. Born on May 13, 1927, in Bells, Tennessee, Dorothy’s life journey brought joy and inspiration to many as she lived her years with grace and faith.
Dorothy spent her life in the embrace of family and faith. A dedicated homemaker, she poured her love and tireless energy into creating a warm home for her beloved children and their families. Her children, Freddy Hill (Sharline), Rev. Dr. Joe Hill (Minister Carrie Hill), Dorothy Hill, Linda McDaniel, Gwendolyn Hill-Spencer, and Anessa Edwards (Kenneth), stand as testament to her nurturing spirit. The legacy Dorothy leaves behind is also lovingly reflected in her 27 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
Dorothy’s spiritual journey was as rich as her family life. She embraced her love for the Lord with devotion, being baptized at the Second Baptist Church in Carlyle and regularly attending the First Missionary Baptist Church in Mulberry Grove. Along with her love for the Lord, Mrs. Hill also enjoyed playing bingo with her family and friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Hearlie Hill; her cherished children Melvin Hill, Franklin Hill, Brenda Hill, Katie Doss, Donald Hill, and Robert Hill, and her beloved great-grandson Zyren Brown.
A Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at the Holy Garden of Prayer in Carlyle, IL with Rev. Theodore Macon, officiating. Interment will follow at Carlyle Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Holy Garden of Prayer on Saturday from 10:00 AM until service time.
