2024 08/28 – Mona Romaine Hoyt Watson

Mona Romaine Hoyt Watson passed away on August 23rd, 2024 at Centralia Manor. She was 96 years old.

Mona was born on July 29th, 1928 in Kinmundy, IL to Frank Hoyt and Genevieve (Phillips) Hoyt.

She is survived by her half sisters: Roxie Henke (Dale) of Kinmundy IL and Phyllis Jackson (JD) of Broken Arrow, OK; her half brothers: Ron Hoyt of Springfield, IL and George Hoyt of Cape Coral, FL; her two twin children: Merry Watson Clark (Bill) of Rock Hill, SC and Perry Watson of Park Hills, MO; step daughter: Donna Smith (Lanny) of Mt Vernon, IL; granddaughter: Jessica Clark Belanger (Marc) of York, SC; her great grandson: Ian Belanger; and several nieces and nephews.

Mona graduated from Kinmundy High School in 1946 and very much loved attending her High School reunions. She married James “Buster” Howard Watson, Jr. in Carlyle, IL after WII was over. They were married for 63 years. Her and her husband formed a partnership that created Goff and Watson plumbing and heating. In 1970 they decided to move to Gainesville, FL after selling the business to their partner.

After moving to FL, she was an amazing accountant and worked for the College for Dentistry at the University of Florida. After that, they decided to move back to Salem IL.

Mona loved all of her clubs and was a member of the First Christian Church, Salem American Legion Auxiliary, DAR, Kiwanis, Marion County Genealogy, Republican Woman’s Club, and also a Red Cross volunteer.

A Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 28, 2024 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at the Sutherland-Rankin Funeral Home in Salem. Funeral Services will follow at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Pastor Phil Martin officiating. Mona will be laid to rest at East Lawn Cemetery in Salem. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Christian Church and will be accepted by the Sutherland-Rankin Funeral Home, 310 North Broadway/ P.O.
