The village of Central City is making progress toward an OSLAD grant, which could provide Central City with a maximum of $600,000 in funding for renovations and developments in Lions Park. These renovations would include handicap accessible bathrooms, playground equipment, a new sidewalk, and a new concession stand. The village board reviewed information about the grant and potential developments at the meeting on Tuesday. The grant application is set to be completed by the end of August to meet the submission deadline.

The board approved the installation of non-permanent speed bumps on Hardin and Harrison Street to slow traffic near Central City School. According to police chief James Ramsey, traffic on these roads is dangerously congested, so slowing it is in the interest of safety.

The board noted a need to spend money from the Capital Improvement Fund to meet a grant spending deadline. To that end, the board approved to purchase of new flags to replace old, deteriorated flags as well as a new flag pole to placed on the north side of town. These purchases will be made with the Capital Improvement Fund. The board also approved new playground equipment for West Park.

The board approved the St. Jude Run to be held on September 7, and approved a $50 donation to the Mike Fontaine Memorial Golf Tournament.

The next Central City Village Board meeting is scheduled for September 18, 2023.
