Kathryn Deanna Phelps, 81, of Salem, Illinois, passed away on August 15, 2024, at Centralia Manor in Centralia.
Born on November 9th, 1942, in Salem, Deanna was the daughter of James and Helen Kathryn (Mayberry) Brubaker. She married James Allen Phelps on June 1, 1962, in Salem. They enjoyed 53 years of marriage until his passing on May 9, 2016.
Deanna is survived by her siblings, William Luttrell and his wife JoAnne of Salem; Mirrium Luttrell-Graetz and her husband Harry of Fairbanks, Alaska; and Gene DeWitt Ray Luttrell and his wife Karen Sue of North Pole, Alaska; her sisters-in-law, Phyllis Davis of Salem and Freda Halfacre of Iuka; along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Helen Brubaker; her husband, James; a daughter, Sherry Lynn Phelps; a son, Steven Lee Phelps; and a step-brother, Gary Leon Luttrell.
Deanna graduated from Salem Community High School. She was a dedicated seamstress who owned and operated Quilt and Cuddles in Salem for many years. She was known for her expertise in creating prom and wedding dresses. Wishing to share her talent with others, she taught quilting at Kaskaskia College. Along with her husband Allan and daughter Sherry, they owned ADS Paper Service and with her green thumb, she enjoyed working at the nursery. She always had beautiful plants and flowers.
Funeral services for Kathryn Deanna Phelps will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem, with Carol Rudzinski officiating. Burial will follow at Palestine Cemetery in Iuka. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the time of the service.
