Tana W. Bernard, 75, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 10:24 am August 9, 2024, at her home. She was born May 25, 1949 in Mount Vernon to the late Philip and Mary Belle (Briesacher) Bean. Tana married Larry Dale Bernard in August 1969. He preceded her in death on October 28, 2022.
Tana is survived by her daughters, Laura Cooper and husband, Rob of Mount Vernon, Crystal Hipkins and husband, D.K. of South Korea, and Tammy Tushman and husband, Larry of Las Vegas, Nevada; sons, Ryan Bernard of Mount Vernon, Ian Bernard of Linville, Virginia, and Philip Bernard and wife, Vincy of Manassas, Virginia; grandchildren, Evan, Sabrina, Kaleb, T.J., Grace, Abiigail, and Tabitha; brother, Philip Bean and wife, Shelby of Texico, Illinois; sister-in-law, Sue Bean of South Bend, Indiana; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, Tana was preceded in death by her siblings, Marty Bean, Perry Bean, Phylis Bernard, and Marsha Jones.
Tana worked as an elementary school teacher at Bethel before moving to Virginia in 1973. In 1972, she was nominated for Teacher of the Year. Tana worked at Good Samaritan Hospital as a lab technician during college. Tana retired as a senior medical technician at Prince William Hospital in Manassas, Virginia. She attended Central Christian Church. Tana will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
A Greeting of Family and Friends will be held Friday, August 16, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Memorial Service will begin at 6:00 pm. Memorials may be made in Tana’s honor to Disabled American Veterans (DAV) or Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
