Only the final touches remain on the complete renovation of the Student Services area at Kaskaskia College.
Vice President of Student Services Amy Zanton says the change in facilities comes along with a better flow of services for students.
“We have a brand new area for all of those frontline services…admissions, advising, financial aid, cashiers, and all of those elements. And as well as the physical space we’ve implemented a new service model to make it more efficient for the students coming in so they don’t have to come in and bounce around and find each department with each step. Student meeting rooms designed around the student needs so that each department they need within the enrollment process can come to them and it takes all that guesswork out of it.”
The project is one part of the complete overhaul of the administration building which is still underway. The book store remains in the student center and is not expected to return to its remodeled facilities until December. Zanton says work is also still being completed in the science and information technology area as well as the auto lab. The front parking area off Shattuc Road is still a few weeks away from being completed. About half the lot is currently available. Students can get rides from the rear parking lot if parking is not available in front of the school.
Kaskaskia College started the school year Monday with a 2.2-percent increase in headcount and three-percent increase in credit hours. There are currently 1,911 students enrolled. Zanton says that number will grow as dual enrollment students are added at area high schools.
