Fulltime employees in the city of Kinmundy will now have a benefits package.

The board approved the package Thursday night as they begin seeking a new full time police chief for the community. Mayor Angie Diss feels the combination of the benefits package and a competitive salary will allow them to find a police chief who will stay on the job long term.

The benefit package includes a match up to three percent of salary for a retirement package through Modern Woodman of America. Each employee will also receive a $250 stipend towards health insurance or if not needed for long and short term disability or to be used towards retirement. The city will also provide a $20,000 term life insurance policy to each employee.

The Kinmundy Board has decided against purchasing pickle ball nets for the old tennis courts in the city park. Instead, those who want to use the courts will be allowed to bring their own net. The decision came following discussion of storage and upkeep of the nets and the fact many now using the court already have their own net.

The board agreed to take over maintenance of the US flags flying near the Madison and Second Street intersection downtown. They were originally placed at the intersection by the Hometown Friends organization.

The board also agreed to vacate an unused portion of Goodwin Street near the new Dollar General store.
