Douglas Gibson, 61, of Centralia passed away Friday, August 2, 2024, at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia. He was born on May 8, 1963, the son of Thomas Henry and Joyce Ann (Leavell) Gibson in Washington, Indiana. He married the love of his life and best friend, Cathy Eileen Miller on June 16, 1990, in Centralia and she survives him in Centralia.
Along with his beloved wife of 34 years, Cathy Gibson, Doug is survived by his pride and joy, his daughter, Miranda Gibson (Joey Kleiman) of St. Louis, Missouri; his sister, Lisa (Greg) Hartz of Washington, Indiana; brothers-in-law, Robert (Becky) Marcum, and Micheal Marcum; his 2 four-legged companions, Sidney, and Belle; and several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Joyce Gibson; and his brother, Ronald Henry Gibson.
Doug valued education, attending Indiana State University, Indianna University, and Vincennes University before moving to Centralia in the late 1980’s. Doug was a loyal employee of The Maschhoffs of Carlyle for over a decade. Doug was a member of Calumet Street Christian Church in Centralia where he shared his deep faith and love for Jesus through the selfless ways he served his church family. He was musically talented on guitar, and this gift brought grateful worshippers into a time of praise as Doug served on the worship team. He was a barbeque master, competing in and winning competitions all over, through the Clinton County Barbeque Society and he was part of the Hickory Stick Barbeque Team who were crowned Champions. He appreciated the esthetic of a well-cared-for yard and the time he spent doing so was truly therapeutic. Doug and his wife Cathy loved to travel to beautiful destinations together and their love for one another was apparent to everyone. He was a wonderful, supportive father who put his family’s needs above his own. Doug was extremely generous, always available to lend a helping hand. Doug will be remembered for his faith, integrity, kindness, and love for his family.
A celebration of life service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 8, 2024, at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia with Pastor Anthony Sweeney officiating.
