Rosemary E. Mathis of Centralia passed away on Monday, July 22, 2024, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia. She was born July 5, 1952, in Centralia, Illinois to Lloyd P. and Viola (Dark) Starr Sr. She married Chuck Mathis on Feb. 24, 2000, and he survives.
She is survived by three daughters, Stepfanie (RC) Smoot, Serena (Daniel) Claypool and Sabrina Brown; four sisters, Anna Miller, Brenda Mitchell, Christina Hart and Carmen (Walter) Thouvenin; three brothers, Lloyd Starr Jr., Charlie Starr and John Starr and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Rosemary worked at Miss Elaine’s and DeMoulin as a seamstress. She was a caregiver for her handicapped daughter, Megan, for 31 years. She was an animal lover, always having cats and dogs at her home. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and playing Solitaire. She had a great sense of humor and always friendly. She enjoyed spending time with family and the family dinners at her Mom’s.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Megan Brown, two grandsons, Phoenix Ho and Michael Pinkston, and one brother, Kenny Starr.
Graveside Services will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park on July 30, 2024, at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Centralia Animal Shelter and will be accepted at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home at 235 North Sycamore Centralia, Illinois 62801, (618)532-3523, who is honored to be of service to the Mathis Family.
