The 19th Annual Kids Day at the Marion County Fair is Monday.  The event will run from nine am to two pm.  Everything is free.

Ag in the Classroom Teacher Meggan Heistand says check in stations will be at the free stage with kids attending getting a wrist band and a goodie bag with a number of items inside.

“We have a variety of fun things planned for kids this year.  Spin to win for a fun prize, dig for potatoes, pick apples, collect eggs, and milk a cow.   They can even milk a real goat, see the famous long-horn steer from Lander’s. The University of Illinois is doing a take-home project.  All the livestock barns are open for the kids to walk through and see all the animals.”

Heistand says there are a number of new events as well.

“The Salem Police Department will be letting the kids check out their police car and will be handing out giveaways.   The kids can also watch how butter is churned and taste it on a cracker.  The DAR ladies will be giving away succulents and the National Wildlife Turkey Foundation is bringing their JAKE’s Take Aim Blowup BB Gun Range.”

Heistand says every kid will get a free merry-go-round ride and ice cream beginning at ten am and a free hot dog lunch at eleven am.   There are a total of 40 sponsors making the event possible this year.

Last year there were 795 kids in attendance.
