A big school supply giveaway is set in Centralia for Saturday.

Crystal Koch is once again organizing the event from eleven am to three pm at the Calumet Christian Church on East Calumet at Airport Roads.

“We’ll be giving out all types of supplies, including backpacks, about any school supplies you can think of including Kleenex, wipes, and post-it notes. We’ll plan on being able to give to 700 kids this year.”

Koch says a carnival is being added this year.

“Sharon Hall took it upon herself to put together an outdoor ‘school type’ carnival.  I know Calumet Street Church has helped with that as well and is providing snacks and refreshments for that to give the kids something to do while they are waiting in line.   We will also have DJ Blaze outside playing music for a little entertainment as well.”

Koch says the program is open to students in kindergarten through seniors in high school.   They can live anywhere, but the children being helped must come themselves to receive the school supplies.

This is the seventh year for the event and has grown from an online event with just 40 to 50 kids being helped.   Now Koch has 30 to 40 volunteers who now help on distribution day.
