The Jefferson Fire Department was on the scene of a semi-truck fire and cleanup for six hours on Wednesday.
The first call came in as a brake fire on the trailer of a southbound truck at the 101 miles marker south of Dix. By the time firemen arrived, the trailer had caught fire.
The trailer was loaded with French fries and an excavator was called in to tear about the trailer as part of the cleanup. Firemen were able to keep the fire from spreading to the cab.
Southbound traffic on the Interstate 57 continued to flow during most of the time firemen were on the scene. The call came in around four Wednesday morning with firemen not clearing the scene until about noon.
Kell Firemen were called for mutual aid assistance.
