Doris A. Carpenter, 83, of Centralia, passed away Monday, July 22, 2024 at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia.
She was born December 29, 1940 in Cairo, Illinois, the daughter of James Ford Mason and Doris P. (Lee) Mason. Doris married the love of her life, Richard “Dick” Carpenter, Sr., in Murphysboro, Illinois in 1961 and he survives.
In addition to her husband of 63 years, Richard “Dick” Carpenter, Sr., Doris is also survived by her two sons: Paul Carpenter of Alexandria, Virginia and Richard “Rick” Carpenter, Jr. and Cia of Centralia; grandchildren: Ben Carpenter, Nate Carpenter, Paul Carpenter, Sean Carpenter, and Kelly Carpenter; sister: Janet Groesch of Lake Ozark, Missouri; and several nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother: James Mason.
Doris worked in the banking industry for many years until her retirement. In her younger years enjoyed playing golf on women leagues with her friends. She also enjoyed going with her lunch group from bank and friends on Thursday’s. Doris was an avid reader. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Centralia. Doris loved her family, she especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, July, 26, 2024 at 7:00 PM at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 5:00 PM until the time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital and/or Wounded Warriors and will be accepted at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home at 235 North Sycamore Centralia, Illinois 62801, (618)532-3523, who is honored to be of service to the Carpenter Family.
