A 53-year-old Centralia man will be released from prison with time served after being resentenced in Marion County Court on a reduced conviction for aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
Carl Privatt had initially been sentenced to 20 years in prison after being found guilty by a Marion County Court Jury in 2019 of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child under 13. But on appeal, the Appellate Justices found the state did not properly prove the Class X predatory criminal sexual assault charge and reduced the conviction to the Class 2 felony of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse.
Judge Mark Stedelin on Tuesday resentenced Privatt to a seven-year prison sentence at the recommendation of the State’s Attorney and Public Defender. That’s the maximum sentence allowed on the sexual abuse charge. With day-for-day credit under Illinois law for the offense, he has already served three and a half years in prison and will now be released on parole.
