Leonard E. Lane, 79, of Mt. Vernon, passed away Monday, July 15, 2024, at his home.
He was born November 21, 1944, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Sam and Anna (Elliston) Lane. On December 31, 1963, he married Donna Marie Ilbery, and they were married for 25 years. She preceded him in death on September 12, 2006.
He was a hardworking man, and a prolific artist, and especially enjoyed carving stone and wood. He also enjoyed rock collecting. Leonard worked for General Motors for 23 years, prior to his retirement. In the early 1970’s he was a President of the Marion, Indiana, chapter of the Outlaws Motorcycle Club, and later became affiliated with the Storm Riders Motorcycle Club, in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. He loved his family more than anything.
Leonard is survived by a son, Daniel Lane of Mt. Vernon; two daughters, Lynnie Sue Daniel and husband Dale of Mt. Vernon, and Vonna Lane of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren, Joe Rector, Lacey Johnson, Larissa Ilbery, Blake Lane, and Chance Lane, Alicia Capps, Cody Brooks, Alex Brooks, and Jessica Garner; great-grandchildren, Eli Rector, Rilee Rector, Mathew Ilbery, Urijha Ilbery, Genevieve Johnson, Maezlyn Lane, Lexi Capps, Ryder Capps, Edan Brooks, Bentley Brooks, and Ashley and Ella Brooks; and brother, Samuel Lane and wife Carolyn of Mt. Vernon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Donna Marie Lane; infant children, Cindy Lane and Clinton Lane; nine step-brothers; and two step-sisters.
Funeral services for Mr. Lane will be held at 12:00 p.m. (noon), Friday, July 19, 2024, at Osborn Funeral Home in Dix. Burial will follow at Boyd Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, July 19, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service, at the funeral home.
