The 2023 Junior Gold Bowling Championships began on Monday in Indianapolis with several Wildcat bowlers qualifying for the national tournament.
With over 1300 bowlers in the 18u Boys Division, the top 230 will make the cut to Friday, and the top 3 from Friday will make the televised finals.
Salem was led by their individual IHSA State Champion Charlie Hunter who is 24th overall after averaging 222 through the first 4 games. Silas Moats is also in solid shape after the first of 4 days averaging 195 and sitting 203rd.
Rhett Runge averaged 189 and is in 271st place. Those needing to make a move over the next few days are Ryan Detering (177 avg), Rhett Detering (174) and Keaton Gullion in his first ever Junior gold, averaged 122.
Also from the area, Evan McDermant of Harrisburg is 23rd overall with a 223 average. Carterville’s Evan Flath is 41st (216 avg), Nathan Bassford of O’Fallon is 66th (210 avg), Connor Lunning of O’Fallon is 223rd (173 avg).
The group will begin their 2nd day at 4pm Eastern Standard Time on Tuesday.
