Bond has been set at $75,000 for a 25-year-old rural Salem man who was formally charged in Marion County Court Monday with aggravated discharge of a firearm, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, and possession of under five grams of methamphetamine.
In the probable cause statement, State’s Attorney Tim Hudspeth said Zacharia Hodge had fired a gun through the front window of his mother’s home into a room where two people reportedly were having a disagreement. The gunshot went into the ceiling and no one was injured.
After the shooting incident, Hudspeth said the Marion County Sheriff’s Office obtained a search warrant for a camper on the property where Hodge was staying. Hudspeth reported they found numerous firearms, ammunition, and parts all of which were illegal for Hodge to have because of his prior felony conviction.
The unlawful possession of a weapon charge upon conviction would require a mandatory two to ten-year prison term.
Hudspeth asked for a $100,000 bond, but Judge Mark Stedelin settled on a $75,000 bond with no contact with the persons who were in the room where the shot was fired.
The Public Defender was appointed to represent Hodge.
