Alberta L. George
Life’s journey ended peacefully for Alberta on May 31, 2024.
She was the daughter of William and Bernice Mifflin of Centralia, IL, on March 16, 1935, she was the eldest of five surviving children. She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Loretta and Alice, and brother, Charles. She is survived by her remaining sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Jim Gramlick, of Centralia, IL.
Alberta grew up in Centralia and graduated from Centralia High School in 1953. After high school, she took the job of “dispatcher” with Gordon Transport Company. She soon married the love of her life, John R George, of Odin, IL on May 24, 1957. They are survived by their daughter, Connie Ebert, son-in-law, Jon Ebert, and two grandchildren, William and Sidney Ebert.
In 1970, Alberta moved to Tuscola, IL with her family, where she continued to work for Gordon’s Transport Company until they closed their doors in the early 1980s, and she retired. She continued her interests of cooking, baking, and especially sharing all that baking at Christmas time, collecting recipes, decorating, and sewing with her dear friend, Mary. In 2012, Alberta moved to Gilroy, CA to be with her daughter and family after her husband John’s death. She lived at Wheeler Manor for almost ten years and made many friends, whom she loved to cook and bake for. In 2021, Alberta’s final move was to Kingman, AZ, making many more new friends at her new assisted living home.
Alberta is survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as many great and great-great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by numerous cousins. “Bert”, as many knew and loved her, will be dearly missed.
A “Celebration of Life” Service will be held at the Hillcrest Lakeside Chapel in Centralia, IL on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 10:30 AM.
