The Marion County Board Tuesday night had further discussion, but made no decisions, on the condition of the county parking lot in the 200 block of North Broadway.

Building Committee Chair Dr. Creighton Engle suggested seeking bids on the engineering and construction of a paved lot that would be ready to go so the county could seek grant funding to help with the project.

When Circuit Clerk Tiffany Schicker noted there had now been eight employees who have had flat tires due to rebar sticking out of part of the lot and no longer want to park there, discussion followed on possibly closing off part of the lot, or finding a way to cut off the rebar.

The county board did approve a $4,800 bid from Tri-County Seal Coating to reseal and restripe the front and rear parking lots of the Law Enforcement Center.  Sheriff Kevin Cripps reports the parking spots will be widened from nine to ten feet.  To avoid the loss of parking spaces in the front of the jail, one of the two handicapped spaces will be eliminated.

Engle reported the mold mitigation had now been completed at the Moose records storage building and the security cameras installed.

The new doors for the first-floor restrooms at the courthouse are expected to be completed and installed in the next few weeks.   Ameresco has also ordered new flooring to be installed in the third-floor bathrooms to replace flooring originally put down that did not meet the county’s expectations.

Reconstruction of the Sally port at the Law Enforcement Center is expected to be completed in the next two to three weeks.

In other action, the board agreed to purchase 50 new locks from Master Lock for the tornado warning sirens that will all be keyed alike.
