The Centralia City Council Monday night will be asked to implement a two-percent surcharge for those who pay their city utility bills via credit or debit cards.
Until now, the city has been accepting online payments and absorbing the fees which have escalated to around $700 per month. A public hearing to allow the user fee has been scheduled at four Monday afternoon at city hall ahead of the 6 pm council meeting.
As part of the plan, the city council will be asked to update the city’s current accounting and billing system through Tyler Technologies to offer online bill access and payment, text to pay, mobile application, pay by phone and miscellaneous payments.
The council will be asked to allow the Salem Community High School Bass Fishing Team to host a fishing tournament on September 3rd on Lake Centralia and for August 13th and September 10th at Raccoon Lake.
The council will also be asked to waive the speed limit on Raccoon Lake for the 2023 Boat Races on August 12th and 13th.
