The Salem Fire Protection District was called out three times on Saturday, including a fire that destroyed a light and a child’s electric jeep.
Firemen report the call was at the Jarrod Burner residence in the 400 block of North Illinois Street. The fire was in a portable carport. An overhead light apparently melted and fell into the child’s electric jeep catching it on fire. Both were a total loss.
Burner, who is a member of the fire department, was able to put out the fire with a garden hose before the department’s arrival. In addition to the fire loss, there was minor smoke damage to the portable carport.
The fire call came in at 3:30 Saturday afternoon.
Firemen were then called to a home on Yellowstone Road on Lake Centralia to a smoke detector sounding. It turned out to be a false alarm.
The final call came at 10:26 Saturday night when a fire alarm was sounding at the Hoyleton Children’s Home facility at South Marion and Lake Street. The alarm was apparently set off by burned food. There was no actual fire.
