Ewing North firemen called for mutual aid from at least seven fire departments Monday afternoon to help fight a fire that destroyed Hey Carl’s bar on Illinois Route 14 northeast of Benton. Flames shot through the roof of the building. Without a water source at the scene, firemen provided a water shuttle that supplied two aerial fire trucks with water to put out the fire.
Departments on the scene included Jefferson Fire, Kell Fire, Centralia Fire Protection District, Woodlawn, Wayne City, Benton, West Frankfort, and Williamson County Fire.
The fire call first came in around three Monday afternoon with firemen on the scene for more than three and a half hours.
